The Sun moves through Capricorn until January 20. Saturn rules this dynamic Cardinal / Earth sign. The cardinal signs Aries, Cancer, Libra and Capricorn carry great energy as they are the signs that lead off the seasons. Capricorn, being an earth element, lends practical wisdom along with grit and determination to reach the goal, whatever it may be, for those born under the January skies. Dedication and devotion to the principal of any one thing carry these folks a very long way. Much depends on how they elect to go.
Saturn / Capricorn energy when filtered positively produces some of the greatest leaders, deepest thinkers and solid builders of the future as they work devotedly on securing the present. Judges, lawyers, doctors, bankers, teachers, police officers, military strategists, morticians, farmers, financial flanners, realtors, bosses, parents…the list is long but generally they end up running the show, one way or the other.
Saturn / Capricorn energy when filtered negatively brings the most cruel, tyrannical, manipulative, and cunning con-men and women to the scene. Cult leader Jim Jones was a Taurus, but had Saturn rising in Capricorn and fed his drug fuelled fear and paranoia to his hapless followers, and we know the outcome. Tricky Dickey (Richard Nixon) and J. Edgar Hoover were another pair of Capricorns that got hold of power in the U.S. and much suffering ensued. The list is long, but if you look around, you will find the Capricorns in positions and pockets of power and authority. The Sea Goat is an apt totem for Capricorn as it represents the dual activities of material acquisition and spiritual devotion. One without the other represents imbalance.
Astrology’s value and usefulness lies within its capacity to predict what type of energy will unfold at any given time in one’s life or in the life of a nation. Here are a couple of predictions that we can observe in the month of January 2012. U.S. President Barack Obama’s chart is radiating serious danger and it may spell some type of incident, accident, clash or conflict for the American people or for the man himself. In ancient times the fate of a nation was reflected through the birth chart of its leader.
Tiger Woods is also in a very dangerous and highly precarious time in which some type of accident, incident or controversy may be reported in the news. His chart shows struggle until 2013 and then he will rise again to the top of the heap in the sports world if he survives the dangers of the times.

by Mac McLaughlin | Dec 3, 2011 | Weekly Forecasts
The winter solstice takes place on December 21 at 9:30 PM. We have arrived at a most important juncture in which we have massive and major decisions to make and we don’t have a great amount of time to figure it all out. The question is not if Israel and Iran will clash, but when it will happen. The tension is as taut as ever and having studied the charts of Benjamin Netanyahu, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and Barack Obama, I am convinced we are on the brink of disaster in the middle east.
At the time of the solstice, Saturn is conjunct with Netanyahu’s Sun and the combination indicates a most serious turn of events in which severe karmic energies are dealt with. Mars moves through Virgo and becomes retrograde on January 24, 2012, indicating Mars will be moving very slow and is known to display much more volatility, violence, aggression and unrest as a result. Mars becomes stationary right on Ahmadinejad’s Jupiter and this combination is also an indicator of aggression and war. Obama’s Mars happens to be in the same place as Ahmadinejad’s Jupiter and draws him into the play. The solar eclipse on May 20, 2012 activates very sensitive points in Netanyahu and Ahmadinejad’s horoscopes. It brings up a time in which the karmic seeds bear fruit. Two wrongs do not make a right.
We’re concerned with the equal distribution of wealth, but monetary wealth will be the least of our worries if we get this wrong. The sabre rattling may turn deadly with grave consequences for the world in its wake. The world fears Iran will attempt to destroy Israel or that Israel will strike first. There are no winners in this situation, only losers. What can we do; what must we do? Yet our fear may be displaced. It is not about who is building nuclear weapons or even who possesses them now. Our fear should be that they exist at all. The whole concept is insidious and we should all hang our heads in shame as long as these WMDs are on our planet.
If we must protest, why not protest about saving all of the precious people on the planet? We are all deserving of love and safety. This is a huge wakeup call and we must truly and unequivocally address it now. Speak up to your leaders and insist this whole cycle of paranoia and warmongering be laid to rest before it is too late. Where are the visionaries? We need you now.
It’s time to reach for the gold ring on the merry-go-round of life. Lord Mars visits Virgo for several months, offering up the opportunity to organize and harmonize your life. Diet, work and worship need an overhaul. Seek your truth.
“Make hay while the sun shines” is a fairly apt mantra for 2012. Material acquisition and manoeuvring for power, name or fame is not what I’m hinting at. You have an opportunity for real growth. A deep and profound change takes place.
December will be memorable and hopefully for the right reasons. There will be plenty of opportunities to make mistakes (yours and others), as everything seems to be in contrast and diverse forms of controversy. The lunar eclipse on December 10 will tell the tale.
The Sun’s passage through your opposite sign Capricorn starting on December 21 brings up a time for rest and recreation. Jupiter and Mars cast good energy your way for several months and progress along with success is attainable. Deal with health issues now.
Family, especially children, features strongly throughout December. Your social circle broadens as unique friendships blossom. Career sector gets a huge boost from Jupiter until mid-June as the wheel finally starts to roll freely. Romance is in the cards as well.
Fiery Mars pays a visit for the next seven months, which is great in many ways as it instils courage, stealth and bravery. Venus and Jupiter cast fine rays throughout December bringing happiness and abundance. Jupiter’s positive influence runs until next June. Walk, don’t run.
Libra people possess a very active, curious and dynamic mind that needs constant stimulation and information. The December skies offer up all kinds of excellent opportunities in which you can feed your voracious intellectual appetite. A revolution is taking place in your consciousness.
Jupiter casts his special glance your way until June 2012. Doors are open and opportunities await thee. Although you can groove on the good times, it may be wise to capitalize on this special Jupiter blessing by striving for the highest ground attainable.
A solar and lunar eclipse takes place in Sagittarius, along with retrograde Mercury. It tells of a dynamic and intense time, in which potentially all hell breaks loose. On the positive side, December brings important revelations that propel you into the future.
December starts off with Venus conjunct Pluto in Capricorn. A new love, a new way of life along with the demise of the past takes place. It is a time of birthing and dying, laughing and crying, worshipping and growing in a most dynamic way.
Venus enters Aquarius on December 20, bringing a festive vibe to the season. The moon and Venus are conjunct on December 26, indicating you will be in fine form doing all the things Aquarians do with family, friends and strangers alike.
Home, family, relationship and career sectors are strongly activated. Diplomacy, patience and kindness are the best tools to keep at the ready as the month develops. There will be plenty of opportunities to use them. Truth, valour, courage and bravery figure in the mix.

The Sun moves through tropical Scorpio from October 23 to November 22. Ruled by fiery Mars and co-ruled by the deep and mysterious Pluto we find that Scorpio natives are naturally inclined towards leadership roles and power positions. It’s never half way, but all the way, or no way with Scorpio. There are some interesting totems associated with this sign, the first being the serpent, or scorpion. This one says, “sting me, I sting you back”. Revenge, dominance, control, manipulation, violence, chaos and death is their game if unindividuated. The phoenix is probably the best known symbol of Scorpio and it implies the awesome regenerative and healing power that many Scorpios possess. Out the ashes a new life form is created. Where many give up, generally Scorpio is just getting warmed up. Researchers, scientists, doctors and surgeons and others that may literally transform your life come under the heading of this sign.
The eagle is the next symbol of Scorpio and it represents the purity and spiritual heights that can be attained, for no other flies as close to the sun as does this regal bird. The eagle type Scorpios are more likely to be the ones that work quietly behind the scenes ensconced deeply into their studies with no time for pomp, strut and ceremony.
We might ponder as to why these folks are so intense and intent on all that they do in the light or darkness. In ancient times the sun’s passage through this sector of the sky signalled its death, which would be resurrected in the early springtime once again. The cycle of growth has seemingly stopped and death and decay set into place refurbishing the soil for the next round of life’s activities. Beyond anything and everything that we know, the life force is the most powerful phenomena and all of life will struggle valiantly to the very last breath in order to keep it. Scorpio types are born into this energy and once focused and directed their power of concentration amalgamated with their dynamic will power produces some of the most remarkable and memorable people on the planet for good or bad. Being a fixed water sign it is often difficult for Scorpios to effect change in their own lives. Learning to surrender to the will of God and acquiescing to the universal plan that we have crafted for ourselves in our previous incarnations is the healing path for all those that suffer. Scorpio is an old soul and is definitely on its way home after its lengthily earthly sojourns.
Mars forms a grand triangle with Jupiter and Pluto mid month and with Mars moving through Virgo you will be very busy. You’re able to put it all together as you organize and plan for your future by a steady application of your willpower.
The full moon on November 10 takes place in your sign bringing important revelations. The moon travels through the nakshatra (star group) named Bharani and its shakti (power) is to take things away. Go with the flow and let go of whatever.
Ever curious, eternally restless and constantly seeking what is to be known and discovered compels the Gemini natives like the wind as they scatter hither and yon seeking their treasures of the intellect. Romance beckons thee as a does contrastment and possible controversy.
The full moon on November 10 will help illuminate your understanding as to where you stand with others, such as a sweetheart, friend or work associate. Matters related to home and family intensify which may not be negative. A busy autumn is predicted.
Career and home activities increase dynamically. You must find the balance and live within it. Earning potential increases, but what does it mean, freedom or drudgery? A sacrifice of sorts could be the remedy. Very good communication opportunities present themselves in early November.
Mars visits Virgo in the last three weeks of November. You will be busy, productive and constructive. Keep in mind the down side of Mars energy is accidents and injuries if we overstep our abilities or let frustration get the best of us.
Saturn continues his sojourn through your sign as he helps you to polish and refine what you’re all about. It is marriage or divorce time as we marry that which we love and divorce away from what is no longer worthy. It’s all good.
The full moon on November 10 is important as it will bring up what is needed most. The moon travels through Bharani the nakshatra (star group) that has the power to take things away. It is a time of intense internal perusal.
Mercury and Venus combine in your sign throughout most of the month, enhancing life in many ways. Romantic and intellectual activities keep you on the move, happily so. The solar eclipse on November 24 in Sagittarius will herald a series of important changes.
Mars and Jupiter cast fine energy into your sign indicating a powerful and active time in which you can truly accomplish all that you wish. Be careful what you wish for though, as it could take too much of your time and energy.
The full moon on November 10 illuminates your solar houses ruling career, family and real estate. Speaking of real estate your inner-state of consciousness may need some refreshing and now is the time to do so. Life amps up and all kinds of people pop up.
Mars moves through your opposite sign Virgo prompting action and reaction. Travel and romance houses are hot as well. Careers sector gets a boost and you should be competitive. Intellectual stimulation and a hunger to learn and discover propel you along.

by Mac McLaughlin | Oct 2, 2011 | Weekly Forecasts
The lunar cycle governs all activities on the planet. The new moon signifies a fresh start while a full moon indicates a culmination or completion of sorts. The new moon on September 27 holds the keys to whatever type of cosmic/karmic energy that is destined to unfold for humankind throughout October. The new moon takes place in early Libra with Mercury and Venus close by. Libra is the sign of balance, harmony and beauty. Libra is a cardinal air sign and is best known as the sign of relationships, agreements or war. We wake up to the reality that we have a tremendous amount of healing to do in all areas of life.
I imagine there are more than a few bruised egos out there following the fallout from the riot. [Vancouver Stanley Cup riot, June 15, 2011] Plus, we have serious work to do and not a whole lot of time to bicker either pro or con. Justice needs to be done and the slow hand of our present- day legal system has many people peeved to no end – murderers in law school, other schools in need of serious repair, bigwigs patting each other on the back and handing out awards as they go, even if their actions cost us billions of dollars. The point is we need a healing and we will have to dig deep into our hearts and work towards forgiveness, tolerance, balance and harmony. It will not be a cakewalk and, if anything, fierce battles will rage as the month begins and heads will roll among the high and mighty. Blame really won’t do any longer. It is time to face the harsh realities and digest what we have dined on over the last several months.
The full moon on October 11 will bring it all home reality-wise, as dear old Saturn is aligned with the full moon indicating the fall of a king or a brutal political battle with significant fallout all the way around. Fortunately, Saturn is exalted while in Libra, a harbinger of our being in the mood to get it right and to move forward with wisdom, hopefully not hardened, but willing to take our licks and get on with the business of running our beautiful gem of a city and the most wonderful country on the planet. Saturn and the Sun are not good buddies and when they meet up we will experience the results in the markets and all places that need correction and discipline. “I owe, I owe, it’s off to work I go.”.
You are a diamond in the rough, with great potential but needing polish. Multi-faceted, highly talented, you just need some inner direction. Now the stars have you in their focus and will demand your highest performance in the times to come.
Make hay while the Sun shines. October starts off rocky and others will possibly rub you the wrong way. The gig is within, getting others onside and not on opposite sides. The end of the month will bring significant revelations and opportunities for cooperative ventures.
As one astrologer said, “You may not be the true cowboy, but you can play the part real well.” It’s all about your creativity and your ability to win people over. Courage, truth and honour work wonders throughout the month. Pay attention to health concerns.
Fight or flight, what will it be? A special configuration called a cardinal T-square forms at new moon time on September 27 and will affect your sign in a very dynamic way throughout the month. Home, career and relationship activities intensify.
Mars and Jupiter square off as the month begins. Hopefully, Mars provides courage, strength and enthusiasm, versus dominance, frustration or impatience. Sparks are flying – ideally figuratively, not literally. A very busy time ensues and all kinds of new people are entering your life.
Your solar second house of personal earnings is lit up like a Christmas tree, as is your ninth house of travel. A very busy month unfolds and no doubt you will be busy. It is also very important to take time to smell the roses.
It’s your time to shine. If not, then it is your time to repair and renew all that you do. The full moon on October 11 will bring important revelations. All aspects of life are changing and you must accommodate the changes.
It is time to go deep into the essence of all things. Happiness does not come from without, but from within. You can play now and pay later, or pay now and play later. The next few years tell the tale.
Lord Jupiter retrogrades in your solar sixth house prompting you to review many aspects of your life, such as health matters, working conditions and how you work with other people. Speaking of others, this is a time of solidifying long-term connections.
Your solar career sector is on fire. As a matter of fact, all aspects of life are fully engaged. Intense and dynamic days unfold. Power plays abound, as do opportunities for personal growth. Walk, don’t run. Keep a keen eye on your own motives.
October will be what you make of it. You can come out swinging and do righteous battle and right the wrongs. Another approach is to utilize your wit, wisdom and love while turning the lemons into lemonade. Travel and romance come into play.
All things metaphysical may become of interest as you seek answers to life’s riddles. Some aspect of your life is ending and a dawning new reality is taking shape. Soon, you can get in touch with it. A deep wisdom etches into your soul.

by Mac McLaughlin | Sep 6, 2011 | Weekly Forecasts
In ancient times, the astrologers would cast the royal horoscope of their King believing that whatever fate had in store for him was also the fate of the country and thusly themselves. Today, everyone and everything has a horoscope, be it a person, company, corporation, marriage or the start of any event. Canada began as a nation on July 1, 1867. The stars tell a wondrous tale of the energy that would prevail from that day onward for our beloved Canada. We have the dog whisperer, horse whisperer and, I guess, star whisperers as well.
Our nation was born just hours before a new moon in the sign of Cancer, the sign most related to family, caring, providing and protecting. We think of Cancer as feminine, nurturing and somewhat connected to antiquity, history and such. While that is all true, Cancer the crab can also produce action and hero figures such as Sylvester Stallone’s Rambo. Stallone is a Cancer and the movie was filmed here in BC. Cancer types are tenacious and fiercely protective of their own. They are also more than willing to lend a hand to those in need wherever and whenever the case may be.
The planet Uranus is tightly conjunct with the Sun and Moon in our collective birth chart bringing a true sense of originality and independence as well as a strong humanitarian flavouring witnessed within our multi-cultured societies from coast to coast. This conjunction may also make us stand out in our own very unique ways. Jupiter casts a wonderful blessing our way in the form of a triangle to the Sun, Moon and Uranus. We are loved and respected for our liberal and fair treatment of humanity and the average Canadian is perceived as friendly and open. But we have our underbelly too. Fiery Mars opposes Jupiter and although we never spoil for a fight and perhaps never misuse our might, we are very competitive – fiercely so. Ask any hockey-crazed fan.
Seemingly, we have been on the ropes as the world economies go through a big shakeout. The stars are hinting the next few years will be some of the best for us. Jupiter brings his blessings in the form of opportunities for growth and success. In the face of all the gloom and doom out there, I don’t see it for Canada. Prime Minister Harper’s Venus is close to Venus in Canada’s chart and Jupiter passes over that area in September of 2012 bringing expansion, cooperation and growth. Then, in late June of 2013, Jupiter enters Cancer bringing more breakthroughs and more of a tendency towards harmony. Relax and enjoy for these will probably be called the good old days.
Out with the old and in with the new is the mantra of the times. Changes are in the wind and it is best to ride them, as best you can. The truth sets you free as a new reality dawns upon you.
It’s your time to shine. Opportunities await thee. The stars are leaning in your favour. Others notice and pick up on your integrity, honesty and loyalty. Forget the stars! Go do your thing. Just don’t go overboard or get too crazy with anything.
You may be restless and sensing that changes are close at hand. You are right. Career and home topics become intensified. Certainly, move towards what makes you happy. Jupiter enters Gemini next June and is a great birthday present bringing breakthroughs and abundance.
The Cardinal signs – Cancer, Libra, Capricorn and Aries – are strongly activated bringing a very challenging and exciting time in which great changes manifest and you may be at your best. Cohesion, blending and joining are key phrases symbolizing September’s highly charged energy.
Kick back and enjoy the late summer days and dream away. A little bit of R&R will do you good. Mars visits Leo beginning September 18, bringing action, attraction, adventure and excitement and possibly some danger in late September and throughout October.
The new moon on August 28 bodes well and brings promises of abundance and opportunity throughout the month. The full moon on September 12 indicates excitement as a series of revelations illuminate your inner consciousness. A lively time unfolds.
Saturn reaches the middle of the scales in early September. You can check how you’re doing by what is unfolding in your life. Hard times come in order to correct problems and good times come for those that have been willing to do so.
The stars are favouring Scorpio throughout September. Strong effort on your part will pay dividends just like working out at the gym does. Mix and mingle and let others discover your talents and gifts. Life intensifies towards the end of the month.
Career objectives come into play. Home and family figure too. A move or travel plans might be the case. The cosmic wheel spins a bit easier for Sagittarius these days, meaning that you can get further with less effort than most this month.
Pluto moving through Capricorn took Premier Gordon Campbell down. He resurrected himself with a very cushy job as Canada’s high commissioner to the UK. A death and a birth took place and this is quite reflective of Pluto’s power of destruction and renewal for all Capricorns.
If you have planets in the latter half of Aquarius, you may feel like you are visiting another planet for the first 10 days of the month. Travel plans may materialize and romantic, intellectual, artistic and spiritual energies become enhanced from mid-month onwards.
Mercury and Neptune continue their dance and the combination is very good for dreamers, inventers, psychics, musicians, artists and actors. But it can make it darn tough to get anything figured out in a concrete way. Take your time and let life unfold its mysteries.
