In Shakespeare’s play, Julius Caesar, Cassius has explained the law of karma simply and accurately when he proclaims, “The fault dear Brutus, is not in our stars, but in ourselves, that we are underlings.” According to the mystics, the whole world is a play made up by the karmic impressions stored in the mind of the people of the world. We know that karma represents the law of give and take, action and reaction. The familiar axiom, “As you sow, so shall you reap” is another way of explaining the laws of karma. The stars and planets are woven into the fabric of our beings and are the representatives of karmic distribution in accordance with our give-and-take, make-and-break ledgers congealed and played out in the present incarnation. The beautiful people among us that seemingly have it easy as they glide along life’s path, radiantly successful with great families etc, are experiencing the positive bounty of generous actions from previous lives. Conversely, the souls that did the negative, non loving and violent activities will come back into this life with severe karmic difficulties, not to punish them but to help them evolve spiritually.

Let’s take a look at some of the karmic energies destined to unfold in the month of February. The ancients had the night sky to study and ponder. They noted the different energies prevailed according to the star group or nakshatra that the moon was moving through. From that, they could decipher what type of energy would befall mankind. The full moon on February 7 takes place in the Nakshatra called Ashlesha and from what I have studied this nakshatra really doesn’t have a lot of positive connotations. Suspicion, paranoia, collusion, conspiracy and many other not so nice aphorisms dominate the energy coming from this star group. We get to see the underbelly of human behaviour. One writer says that Ashlesha represents the power to inflict poison. Sharp venomous attacks take place and many things are hidden and waiting to be discovered. Plus the moon is full and no doubt we will find out what it is all about soon enough.

The new moon on February 21 takes place in the early degrees of Pisces and is conjunct with Neptune. On the positive side of the coin Pisces / Neptune energies convey wisdom, kindness, creativity and compassion. On the negative side of the ledger we have distortion, deception, confusion, lies and misdirection. A few days after the new moon, Mercury opposes Mars (February 23) and this is an indicator of unrest, anger and confrontation. Sabre rattling, nerve jangling threats and counter reactions will be the case, just name the place and let’s see what unfolds. Neptune / Pisces energies rule over the seas and oceans and with all the tension going on in the Strait of Hormuz we can use our imaginations for what may take place. Yes, we are in the belly of the beast whilst we travel the rocky road of the kali yuga. When the great saint Kabir stepped on to the Earth he discovered that no one was happy. How can we be happy when we’re so disconnected from our higher self. Not to despair, we are on our way home. Love will come our way when our hearts can no longer stand the cruel suffering. A change of heart is needed. The mystics teach us that love is the only commodity that increases when given, all other types of giving leads to depletion.

Venus casts her lovely rays your way starting February 7. She offers refinement, beautification and transformation along personal lines. Love, affection and creative energies come along nicely. You may be surprised with the dynamic changes that are starting to happen in your life.

Bust a move or two. Sheesh, go for the whole enchilada. Do not waste this opportunity to truly make positive changes at work, home and especially within yourself. March and April are dynamic months as well. Make the best effort and it will pay.

The Sun moves through Capricorn until January 20. Saturn rules this dynamic Cardinal / Earth sign. The cardinal signs Aries, Cancer, Libra and Capricorn carry great energy as they are the signs that lead off the seasons. Capricorn, being an earth element, lends practical wisdom along with grit and determination to reach the goal, whatever it may be, for those born under the January skies. The winter solstice takes place on December 21 at 9:30 PM. We have arrived at a most important juncture in which we have massive and major decisions to make and we don’t have a great amount of time to figure it all out. The question is not if Israel and Iran will clash, but when it will happen. The tension is as taut as ever and having studied the charts of Benjamin Netanyahu, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and Barack Obama, I am convinced we are on the brink of disaster in the middle east.

At the time of the solstice, Saturn is conjunct with Netanyahu’s Sun and the combination indicates a most serious turn of events in which severe karmic energies are dealt with. Mars moves through Virgo and becomes retrograde on January 24, 2012, indicating Mars will be moving very slow and is known to display much more volatility, violence, aggression and unrest as a result. Mars becomes stationary right on Ahmadinejad’s Jupiter and this combination is also an indicator of aggression and war. Obama’s Mars happens to be in the same place as Ahmadinejad’s Jupiter and draws him into the play. The solar eclipse on May 20, 2012 activates very sensitive points in Netanyahu and Ahmadinejad’s horoscopes. It brings up a time in which the karmic seeds bear fruit. Two wrongs do not make a right.

We’re concerned with the equal distribution of wealth, but monetary wealth will be the least of our worries if we get this wrong. The sabre rattling may turn deadly with grave consequences for the world in its wake. The world fears Iran will attempt to destroy Israel or that Israel will strike first. There are no winners in this situation, only losers. What can we do; what must we do? Yet our fear may be displaced. It is not about who is building nuclear weapons or even who possesses them now. Our fear should be that they exist at all. The whole concept is insidious and we should all hang our heads in shame as long as these WMDs are on our planet.

If we must protest, why not protest about saving all of the precious people on the planet? We are all deserving of love and safety. This is a huge wakeup call and we must truly and unequivocally address it now. Speak up to your leaders and insist this whole cycle of paranoia and warmongering be laid to rest before it is too late. Where are the visionaries? We need you now.

It’s time to reach for the gold ring on the merry-go-round of life. Lord Mars visits Virgo for several months, offering up the opportunity to organize and harmonize your life. Diet, work and worship need an overhaul. Seek your truth.

“Make hay while the sun shines” is a fairly apt mantra for 2012. Material acquisition and manoeuvring for power, name or fame is not what I’m hinting at. You have an opportunity for real growth. A deep and profound change takes place.

The Sun moves through tropical Scorpio from October 23 to November 22. Ruled by fiery Mars and co-ruled by the deep and mysterious Pluto we find that Scorpio natives are naturally inclined towards leadership roles and power positions. It’s never half way, but all the way, or no way with Scorpio. There are some interesting totems associated with this sign, the first being the serpent, or scorpion. This one says, “sting me, I sting you back”. Revenge, dominance, control, manipulation, violence, chaos and death is their game if unindividuated. The phoenix is probably the best known symbol of Scorpio and it implies the awesome regenerative and healing power that many Scorpios possess. Out the ashes a new life form is created. Where many give up, generally Scorpio is just getting warmed up. Researchers, scientists, doctors and surgeons and others that may literally transform your life come under the heading of this sign.

The lunar cycle governs all activities on the planet. The new moon signifies a fresh start while a full moon indicates a culmination or completion of sorts. The new moon on September 27 holds the keys to whatever type of cosmic/karmic energy that is destined to unfold for humankind throughout October. The new moon takes place in early Libra with Mercury and Venus close by. Libra is the sign of balance, harmony and beauty. Libra is a cardinal air sign and is best known as the sign of relationships, agreements or war. We wake up to the reality that we have a tremendous amount of healing to do in all areas of life.

I imagine there are more than a few bruised egos out there following the fallout from the riot. [Vancouver Stanley Cup riot, June 15, 2011] Plus, we have serious work to do and not a whole lot of time to bicker either pro or con. Justice needs to be done and the slow hand of our present- day legal system has many people peeved to no end – murderers in law school, other schools in need of serious repair, bigwigs patting each other on the back and handing out awards as they go, even if their actions cost us billions of dollars. The point is we need a healing and we will have to dig deep into our hearts and work towards forgiveness, tolerance, balance and harmony. It will not be a cakewalk and, if anything, fierce battles will rage as the month begins and heads will roll among the high and mighty. Blame really won’t do any longer. It is time to face the harsh realities and digest what we have dined on over the last several months.

The full moon on October 11 will bring it all home reality-wise, as dear old Saturn is aligned with the full moon indicating the fall of a king or a brutal political battle with significant fallout all the way around. Fortunately, Saturn is exalted while in Libra, a harbinger of our being in the mood to get it right and to move forward with wisdom, hopefully not hardened, but willing to take our licks and get on with the business of running our beautiful gem of a city and the most wonderful country on the planet. In ancient times, the astrologers would cast the royal horoscope of their King believing that whatever fate had in store for him was also the fate of the country and thusly themselves. Today, everyone and everything has a horoscope, be it a person, company, corporation, marriage or the start of any event. Canada began as a nation on July 1, 1867. The stars tell a wondrous tale of the energy that would prevail from that day onward for our beloved Canada. We have the dog whisperer, horse whisperer and, I guess, star whisperers as well.

Our nation was born just hours before a new moon in the sign of Cancer, the sign most related to family, caring, providing and protecting. We think of Cancer as feminine, nurturing and somewhat connected to antiquity, history and such. While that is all true, Cancer the crab can also produce action and hero figures such as Sylvester Stallone’s Rambo. Stallone is a Cancer and the movie was filmed here in BC. Cancer types are tenacious and fiercely protective of their own. They are also more than willing to lend a hand to those in need wherever and whenever the case may be.

The planet Uranus is tightly conjunct with the Sun and Moon in our collective birth chart bringing a true sense of originality and independence as well as a strong humanitarian flavouring witnessed within our multi-cultured societies from coast to coast. This conjunction may also make us stand out in our own very unique ways. Jupiter casts a wonderful blessing our way in the form of a triangle to the Sun, Moon and Uranus. We are loved and respected for our liberal and fair treatment of humanity and the average Canadian is perceived as friendly and open. But we have our underbelly too. Fiery Mars opposes Jupiter and although we never spoil for a fight and perhaps never misuse our might, we are very competitive – fiercely so. Ask any hockey-crazed fan.

Seemingly, we have been on the ropes as the world economies go through a big shakeout. The stars are hinting the next few years will be some of the best for us.
